As per apnaqanoon,Under the Defamation (Amendment) Act 2012, defamation is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both. The Act also provides for compensation to be awarded to the victim of defamation according to law/qanoon, if it can be proven that the defamation caused damage to their reputation.
